The 7 Best Makeup Mirror Selections for a Close Up of Your Face

Let’s face it, there are a million makeup mirrors available these days, and every one of them claims to be the best. The truth is that half of them are made cheaply and the other half? Well, the other half are actually worth their sticker price. (Some more than others.)

Makeup mirrors are great for several reasons.

  • Makeup application
  • Hair removal
  • For people who have poor eyesight
  • Those times when you just really need to get that blackhead
  • To entertain babies (Mom hack! You’re welcome. Just don’t turn the light on. That might hurt the baby’s eyes.)

So which mirror should you pick? We give you a super simple breakdown of the best makeup mirrors.

Makeup Mirror FAQs

What is a makeup mirror?

A makeup mirror is a reflective glass that typically has magnification and lighting around the glass.

What does a makeup mirror do?

A good makeup mirror should do a few things.

Firstly it ought to have magnification, but too much magnification and it can become useless. Not enough? Now you’re straining your eyes trying to pluck that one last stubborn white hair on your chin.

Second makeup mirrors need built-in lighting. Again, some areas just need to be seen with more detail. That perfect cat eye? That new foundation in full sunlight? Give us light!

Third, it needs to be freestanding. We don’t want to hold anything to get the perfect view.

How does it work?

There are some pretty amazing makeup mirrors out there these days. And what once seemed so simple can now actually be slightly complicated.

Many models are still a snap to use. You just place it on your countertop and turn it on. But, as with everything, there have been technological innovations in the realms of makeup mirrors. There are touch screens, dimmers, auto-sensors. There are makeup mirrors that can hook up to your wi-fi and connect to an app on your phone!

Where can you buy a makeup mirror?

Great news! You can get a makeup mirror almost anywhere. Walk to your closest drug store, Walmart or Target, and you’ll likely find a few options. We also happen to think Ulta is a great store and site. And of course, Amazon has hundreds of choices in makeup mirrors.

How much does it cost?

This is a great question. Makeup mirrors are not like they once were. We found a simplehuman model running for almost $300 on Amazon.

However, you don’t need to pay those insane prices. You can get an excellent mirror for starting around $20. Of course, if you’re looking for all the bells and whistles, you’ll probably end up around the $50 - $60 range.

How we reviewed

There are some tried and true methods for evaluating products. It’s mostly trial and error. We examined these makeup mirrors and are giving you our favorite picks. The ones that are sitting on our bathroom counters right now, smudged with little flecks of mascara.

We also wanted to listen to the consumers. Customer reviews are our friends. There’s so much out there that it’s easy to waste your cash on worthless products. We want you guys to have the best, and so we present you this guide as a way to quickly decide which model is best for you.

Overall Price Range Of This Product

You can pay anywhere from $300 - around $15 a makeup mirror. But, those are extremes. For a really good makeup mirror? We’d set your budget to approximately $30. If you want one that has a lot of options? Put yourself in for around $60.

We still can’t get over that $300 model....

We’re starting strong with this brand new for 2019 makeup mirror. It has tons of features and a friendly price tag. Coming in at just under $40, it just goes to show you don’t have to spend hundreds to get a decent mirror. We love the way this one looks, it’s understated and straightforward and does what it’s supposed to! Yay to simplicity!

Cons:

We love this mirror! But, we felt slightly misled by being told there is also 7x magnification. It’s true, this mirror comes with a 7x magnification, but it’s a separate compact mirror that you can remove from the back. The primary mirror is 1x.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

It’s true; there’s a lot to love about this mirror. It has a sleek look and is easy to pack away when you want to travel. We love the 5X magnification for makeup application. It’s enough to give you the extra detail you want from magnification, but you can still see your entire face in the mirror.

We also love that like the mirror from TBI Pro; there is a small handheld mirror included. The difference with this mirror, however, is that it attaches magnetically to the primary mirror. So cool!

Cons:

There’s no other way to say it; this mirror is really expensive. We’re not quite sure why it’s so out of the league of other similar mirrors. We think it may have something to do with the power source that comes with it, and of course, it connects to an app on your phone! But did we really need that?

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

We loved the design of this one and the huge mirror. We liked that there were up close options. It closes so you know the mirror is safe from getting scratched or chipped.

Cons:

This mirror is bright. Why is that a con? This mirror verges on the edge of being just a little too bright. You also need to find a way to adjust this mirror, to bring it up higher or turn it just so. There’s something to be said for the smaller round mirrors.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

Okay, so this Amazon’s number one best seller. It’s got to be pretty darn good, and hey, the price is right. It has a big surface area, but it compact enough that when closed, it doesn’t take up much space at all.

Cons:

We wish this had just a little more light; it feels dim because only the central section is illuminated, leaving the sides somewhat annoyingly un-lit.

  • Heavy duty suction cup
  • On/Off switch

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

This makeup mirror by UBEQEÔ is worth raving about. Let’s start with the way it’s designed. We instantly fell for the adjustable neck and suction cup combo. This gives us so much versatility, and it doesn’t take up space on the counter.

We liked that we didn’t have to charge this one, that there was no tech attached to it. It’s just a tremendous lighted makeup mirror that does what it's supposed to do. It’s also not too pricey, definitely worth spending your money on.

Cons:

Some will not like that this is 10X magnification. When it is that strong, you cannot see your whole face, only details. So, while we want to give this mirror the top prize, we just wish it had a lower magnification in addition to the 10X.
